GARY BLAIR - PRESIDENT AND CEO
Gary Blair is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Business and Information Systems from Western Carolina University and a participant in the MBA program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. With over 30 years of experience in the computing and software industry, Gary formed SoftBase in 1987. As the company's President and CEO, Gary has successfully led the company since that time, showing consistent profitability every year since the company's inception. Gary attributes the company's success to careful growth, sound business practices, and a focus on developing useful tools that DB2 users need. By keeping this unfaltering focus throughout the company's history, SoftBase has become a recognized leader in DB2 solutions.
Prior to SoftBase, Gary was the president of a local DB2 Users Group, where he became familiar with the specific needs of real DB2 environments. To solve a specific problem that he had found with DB2 environments, Gary developed a software tool to save CPU and storage resources by eliminating the use of TSO. The software was well received by other users of DB2, and Gary quickly realized that there was a market for this technology. He patented the software, which later became known as Database Attach, the first of many successful SoftBase tools.
Gary incorporated SoftBase in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, providing a relaxing location for the SoftBase team to continue in their success. Having grown up in the area, Gary was familiar with the unique atmosphere of North Carolina's mountains, which are well known for their breathtaking views.
JIM SPIRES, DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT
Jim Spires brings over 30 years of systems programming and management experience to SoftBase--including work on everything from IBM's first generation of mainframe computer to the newest DB2 systems. Jim was originally trained in data processing in the Marine Corps. After twenty years in the service, he managed technical support for Gulfstream Aerospace before joining SoftBase in 1993. At SoftBase, Jim is responsible for software development, software maintenance, R&D, and technical support. Using his wealth of experience, Jim ensures that SoftBase continues to innovate, and deliver quality data management utilities. In addition, Jim's responsibilities for both customer support and product development ensure that SoftBase remains focused on real customer needs.
DEAN BLAIR, DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL SALES AND MARKETING
Dean Blair joined the SoftBase team in December 1999 as the Director of International Sales and Marketing. With a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, Dean serves as a liaison between SoftBase and all International partners, distributors, and resellers. Dean applies his experience with database administration and his language skills to provide sales, marketing and technical support to a global network of SoftBase associates. With an international presence in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and South America, SoftBase relies on Dean for the success of global operations.
TERESA TURBYFILL, DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND CONTROLLER
As SoftBase's Controller, Teresa holds all accounting and human resources responsibilities. Teresa left her career as a Public Accountant in December 1999 to help SoftBase keep the books and the employees organized. Teresa holds a Bachelor of Science from UNC Asheville, where she studied finance and accounting.
STEVEN PARAVOLA, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
Steve joined the SoftBase team in September 2003 as the Director of Marketing. With a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University, Steve also has more than 25 years of experience in Information Technology and software sales and marketing. Steve's responsibilities include ensuring that Softbase provides a clear message of our capabilities to our customers and also provides our customers with up-to-date information about our exciting future directions.
